Inviting Buffalo is about getting people together and getting things done. Inviting Buffalo is about noticing what’s working in Buffalo and growing more of it. Inviting Buffalo is about people with a passion for neighborhoods, housing, economic development, small business, the environment, the arts and many other dimensions of quality community life — taking personal responsibility for doing something to sustain and improve them.

Inviting Buffalo was initiated in October 2008, by the City of Buffalo, Department of Economic Development. A number of community meetings have been held to date. The invitations to those meetings, and summaries of all the various small-group working breakout sessions, are posted here in this site. (See News section). Other news, photos, videos, etc are also posted.

The  purpose of the website is to catch and archive three kinds of info:

  • Invitations to open space meetings
  • Notes from breakout sessions
  • Other stories of results attributed to these meetings

In May 2009, a practice group was formed and volunteer stewards of the Inviting Buffalo process, community leaders and organizers from all parts of the city, attended a three-day training and practice workshop, learning to organize and invite more of the open meetings that are the foundation of Inviting Buffalo. This practice group now shares, with the Department of Economic Development, editorial access to and stewardship responsibility for this website.
